"The Magician's Apprentice" - Consolidated Viewing Figures

"The Magician's Apprentice" has a consolidated 7 day rating of 6.54 million (7.33 million if you include the repeats) - an increase of 1.96 million from the initial overnight figure of 4.58 million.

This puts the episode fourth for the week on BBC1.

This figure includes those who recorded and watched the show within one week of transmission - plus iplayer views through televisions.  It does not include pc/laptop, tablets or smartphones - those figures will be released by BARB in their Online TV Player Report on Wednesday.

Currently, "The Magician's Apprentice" has 1.53 million download requests on BBC iplayer.

"The Magician's Apprentice" - AI Score

"The Magician's Apprentice" had an Audience Appreciation Index (AI) score of 84.  Series 8 achieved an average score of 83.3.

The Audience Appreciation Index (AI) is a score out of 100 which is used as an indicator of the public’s appreciation for a show. Over 90 is considered exceptional, 85 or over is excellent, 60 or less is poor, and less than 55 is very poor.

52% of those responding strongly agreed that the show was "fresh and new".

Figures also show that an extra 1.1 million watched "The Magician's Apprentice" on catch-up on Sunday and it remains the #1 show currently on BBC iplayer.

"The Magician's Apprentice" - Overnight Ratings

"The Magician's Apprentice" managed a total of 4.58 million viewers on it's return to BBC1 last night.  That's a 21.2% share of the audience.  It was the highest rated programme on BBC1 and second highest rated overall after "The X Factor" (7 million).

Overnight ratings do seem a bit low across the board - and the consolidated figures which are released next week will, no doubt, show a substantial increase on the overnight figure.  Overnight figures are becoming increasingly unimportant due to the high levels of timeshifting now - and Doctor Who traditionally has a very large timeshift figure.

I expect next week's overnight figures for "The Witch's Familiar" to be lower - the episode clashes with England playing Wales in the Rugby World Cup.
