Joivan Wade returns as "Rigsy" in New Episode Written by Sarah Dollard

He was spotted in filming photos this morning (check out the #DWSR hashtag on twitter if you don't mind spoilerish pics) but the BBC have now confirmed that Joivan Wade is returning as Rigsy ("Flatline") in episode 10 of Series 9 which is written by Sarah Dollard ("Being Human", "The Game"):

Filming has begun on episode 10 of the new series of Doctor Who and Joivan Wade, who played Rigsy in last year’s Flatline, is back! The episode is directed by Justin Molotnikov and written by Sarah Dollard whose previous credits include Being Human and the BBC’s acclaimed spy drama, The Game. 

Sarah commented, ‘Getting to play in the Doctor Who toy box is a dream come true. It’s a total honour to contribute to a show that has brought me such joy as a fan. However, writing for Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman has presented a serious problem: some days I've been too excited to actually sit down and type!’ 

The episode sees the return of Joivan Wade as Rigsy, the young graffiti artist who helped save the world in Flatline. He’ll be reunited with the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) in this new adventure although how and why he finds himself mixed up with the time traveling heroes is currently under wraps! 

The guest cast for the new series includes Maisie Williams, Michelle Gomez, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye and Jaye Griffiths.

"Flatline" - Consolidated Viewing Figures

The Consolidated figures for "Flatline" have been released and show another large timeshift audience of 2.11 million, increasing the overnight figure of 4.60 million to a consolidated figure of 6.71 million.

Here are the full consolidated ratings for Series 8 so far:

Deep Breath - 9.17 million
Into the Dalek - 7.29 million
Robot of Sherwood - 7.28 million
Listen - 7.01 million
Time Heist - 6.99 million
The Caretaker - 6.81 million
Kill the Moon - 6.91 million
Mummy on the Orient Express - 7.11 million
Flatline - 6.71 million

Please note that this figure includes UK viewers who watched the episode in the first 7 days after transmission - it does not include those who watched it on iplayer via computers or tablets.

"Flatline" - Overnight Ratings

"Flatline" achieved an overnight rating of 4.60 million viewers - quite a drop from the 5.08 million of "Mummy on the Orient Express"

4.60 million is the lowest overnight figure of series 8 so far the consolidated figures (which will be released next week) should hit between 6 and 7 million.

"Flatline" - Official Synopsis

The BBC have released the official synopsis for "Flatline" which will air on BBC1 on Saturday 18 October 2014.  The time is yet to be announced but I would guess at around 8.30pm.

Separated from the Doctor, Clara discovers a new menace from another dimension. 

But how do you hide when even the walls are no protection? With people to save and the Doctor trapped, Clara comes up against an enemy that exists beyond human perception.
