Steven Moffat's Series 9 Episode Teasers - SFX
The new issue of SFX Magazine hits the shops on Wednesday 19 August 2015 and features, amongst other things, a series 9 preview where Steven Moffat "teases" the forthcoming episodes. Thanks to Jane for lending me her subscriber copy before I pick mine up later in the week!
Episodes 1 & 2 - "The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar":
"This is the opening two-parter. It features lots of Daleks and this time we mean it! Clara receives a mysterious summons and has to team up with Missy to search for the Doctor in a very, very old place."
Episodes 3 & 4:
"This two parter is written by Toby Whithouse and features an underwater base plagued by creeping ghosts and an island that is about to be submerged in water. But who or what is doing this and how can the Doctor stop it? It's very scary, atmospheric and claustrophobic, much like some Classic episodes."
Episodes 5 & 6 - "The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived":
"Those two are exceptional! Doctor Who meets Game of Thrones! Well, only because Maisie Williams is in them. The first part features Vikings fighting mercenary robots (and a dragon!) and the second one sees a group of Highwaymen dealing with a norse God".
Episodes 7 & 8:
"This one is written by Peter Harness and Day of the Doctor acted as a prologue to it. In it, the Zygons made peace with the Humans, but not every Zygon decided it was okay so they've been raising an army, silently and now they're rising against UNIT! We've been planning this forever and Osgood is in it! But how is that possible you'd ask? Missy killed her! Who knows? Well, we know."
Episode 9:
"This is a very unique Doctor Who story from Mark Gatiss. It wasn't possible to do such an episode ten years ago, when the show came back and Mark has been rewriting it over and over again to make it perfect. It's a beautiful story, very eerie and special, I think it's going to be an instant Classic."
Episode 10:
"An episode which leapt out as "why haven't we done this already? This is so Doctor Who we should be doing this immediately". And when Sarah Dollard walked in with the finalised script, it was even better! Really, this is going to be a fan-favorite, everyone will want to rewatch it."
Episodes 11 and 12:
"A challenge. I won't say anything else because it would be too spoilery, but when you'll watch it, you're going to ask how exactly the Doctor and Clara are going to pull it off."

"Patient Zero" - Matt Smith and Natalie Dormer - Release Date Revealed
Sony Screen Gems have announced that Mike Le's "Patient Zero" starring Matt Smith and Natalie Dormer will hit cinemas on 2 September 2016. A slightly updated plot synopsis has also emerged:
After a pandemic outbreak of a mutated form of rabies results in most humans being turned into a highly intelligent new species known as "The Infected," a human survivor, Morgan (Matt Smith), with the ability to talk with the "infected," investigates these species and pursues "Patient Zero" to find an antidote to save humanity, including his infected wife. Aiding Morgan on the mission to find Patient Zero is CDC virologist Dr. Gina Rose (Natalie Dormer), leading the scientific research efforts, while Colonel Knox (Clive Standen) is in charge of the military front.Obviously, 2 September 2016 is the US release date - hopefully the UK won't be too far behind.

Reece Shearsmith to Guest Star in Series 9
The BBC have announced that Reece Shearsmith is the latest guest star to join Series 9 in the Mark Gatiss "scary" episode 9:
Actor, comedian and award winning writer Reece Shearsmith joins Peter Capaldi (the Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) as he takes-up a guest role in a special episode of Doctor Who, returning to BBC One this September.
Reece has previously played Patrick Troughton in a docu-drama about the conception and making of Doctor Who, An Adventure In Space And Time, and returns to Cardiff for a part in an adventure written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Justin Molotnikov and produced by Nikki Wilson.
Most famously known for his work as part of The League Of Gentlemen, along with fellow performers Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and co-writer Jeremy Dyson, Reece comments on his casting for the hit show:
“I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who, as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode - which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It’s a joy to play a part in the show - certainly a badge of honour.”
Mark Gatiss, writer of the episode, adds: “I’m delighted to be writing again for Peter and Jenna’s brilliant TARDIS team and very excited about this particular story. It’s been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now! I’m also chuffed to bits to finally welcome my old friend Reece Shearsmith onto the show. He’s been badgering me for ten years!”
Reece will be joined by Elaine Tan (Eastenders, Entourage), Neet Mohan (All In Good Time, Desert Dancer), Bethany Black (Cucumber, Banana) and Paul Courtenay Hyu (Dalziel And Pascoe, Coronation Street).
Other guest cast for the new series, launching on Saturday 19 September, include Michelle Gomez, Maisie Williams, Rufus Hound, Ingrid Oliver and Rebecca Front.
Doctor Who has had a decade of success and is one BBC One’s most highly regarded shows. The much-loved brand is already a phenomenon delivering on a global scale, with the last series' (series 8) consolidated average at 7.4 million.
Doctor Who series 9 is shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales Roath Lock studios and is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.
